How do I upload photos?
It's quick and
easy! You can upload media from the Use.com front
page, the upload page, or from your account. The
form is already set to "Photos" by default. Simply use the
"Browse" button to find each photo you want to upload. An additional
text box will open each time you enter a file name. You can include up to 100
photos in each upload. Your photos will be uploaded "As a Photo Set"
unless you indicate otherwise.
Enter a single title for a photo set or
separate titles for individual photos and a category, if you wish, and choose the privacy
setting for your photos. Media are viewable to the "Public" by
default. Click the "Upload Now" button and we'll do the
rest. A "Processing" graphic will appear in your account to let you
know that your upload has been received. Refresh the page to check on the progress of
the upload and to view your images.
Note: Our eBay- and Craigslist-ready templates can only be generated from a set.
You can manage your uploaded photos and photo sets at any time from your account
page.
What is the difference between uploading my photos "As Individuals" or "As a
Photo Set?"
If you upload
multiple photos as "Individual" they will each display as a separate,
unrelated photos. Each will have its own unique URL, displaying singly on
its own page. Uploading photos "As a Set" groups your photos as a sort
of album. The first photo will be the display thumbnail; clicking on this will
show all of the grouped photos. The generated URL will access the entire set.
If you are a
registered user and upload your images to your personal account, you will
be able to move photos into and out of sets, create new sets from within your
account, and generate customized HTML links to include only the items you want.
Note: Only photo
sets can be used to automatically generate our free eBay- and Craigslist-ready templates.
What is the difference between the "Public" and "Private"
settings?
Making your media
private prevents the general public from viewing your media. Your items will not
appear in any search on Use.com, such as "Most Recent." The "Show
links & HTML codes" and "Add this image to my account" links
will not appear on your image's display. When you upload while logged in as a registered user, you have the option of
designating your items as "Private" when you upload them, but they are
"Public" by default.
Public items may
appear anywhere on the Use.com site, including "Most Recent" displays
and search results. "Add this image to my account" and "Show
links & HTML codes" links will appear on Public items but not on
Private items.
To change the
privacy setting for any item already in your account, use the "Private" link above the item. Your media will then only be viewable when using the HTML link provided in your account. The "Private" link will be red for all currently private items. Clicking the "Private" link again will make your media viewable by the public.
What's the maximum size for my images?
Although there is
currently no limit for the file size of images, photos will display at a maximum
of 8 megapixels. Remember: the larger the file, the longer it will take to
upload. The photo viewer displays the showcase photo at a maximum of 676px width
and 450px height. Photos which exceed this size can be viewed at their original
dimensions by clicking the "Click to view full sized image" link.
What
file types can I upload?
We accept
standard image file types, including: jpgs, gifs, tifs, bmps, and pngs.
Uploading Videos

easy! You can upload media from the Use.com front
page, the upload page, or from your account.

rest. A "Processing" graphic will appear in your account to let you
know that your video is in queue. Refresh the page to check on the progress of
the upload and to view your video.
Is there a limit to how much I can upload?
There are no limits on the number of videos or pictures you can upload. However, we do have limits on the size of the video that can be uploaded. Videos should be kept under 10 minutes and 100 MB. Longer uploads increase the chance for corruption. A separate upload is necessary for each video or batch of up to
100 images. Have more videos or photos you want to share? It's free and you can upload as many as you want.
How long can my video be?

How long will my video take to upload?
This will depend on your connection speed, the size of the video, and the demand on the servers at the time of your upload, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to upload a video. Generally, if you have a high-speed internet connection you can expect the upload to take between 1 and 5 minutes for each 5MB of your video file size.

What
is a photo set?
A photo set is a
way to organize your images, like an album. Both registered and anonymous users
can designate their images to uploaded "As a Set." The first photo
will be the display thumbnail; clicking on this will show all of the grouped
photos. The generated URL will access the entire set.
If you are a
registered user and upload your images to your personal account, you will
be able to move photos into and out of sets, create new sets from within your
account, and generate customized HTML links to include only the items you want.
Note: Only photo sets can be used to automatically generate our free eBay- and Craigslist-ready templates.
How do I get the links for multiple images at the same time?
Check the
"Select this Media" boxes for each item you want to include. Click the
"Generate HTML& Image Code" button at the bottom of the page. The
links will be displayed in a new window.
Can I create a new photo set from multiple individual photos in my account?
Yes. Check the
boxes of the photos and/or sets you want to put in a set. To merge the
individual images into one set and no longer display the original items, click
the "Move Selected" button at the bottom of the page and select
"New Set" in the pull down. To create a new set without eliminating
the individual photos, click the "Copy Selected" button and select
"New Set." You may need to refresh your
account page to see the changes. You will be able to add a title for your set
after it is created.
How can I move photos into or out of an existing set?
You must be
logged into your account to manage your media.
To move photos
out of a set, click on the thumbnail of the set you want to modify. Check the
boxes of the items you wish to move. Click the "Move Selected" button
and select from the drop-down box where you want to move the items. You have the
choice of moving them into an existing set, into a new set, or into your account as individual
photos (choose "My Account"). You can also click "Copy Selected" to
copy these items into an existing set, into a new set, or into your account as individual
photos while leaving a copy in the current set.
To manage individual photos and entire photo sets, check the appropriate "Select this Media"
boxes for the items in your account page. Use either the "Move Selected"
or "Copy Selected" button at the bottom of the page to move or copy
these items into a new or existing set.

functions?
When you use the
"Copy" button, you can create additional copies of the same image
without removing the original item. You can make a duplicate, create a new set
containing the items you've copied, or copy items to an existing set.
When you use the "Move" button, the original items are actually moved
to a new location and the original links will no longer work. You can move items
into or out of existing sets or move them into a new set. You can add a title to
a new set created through the "Move" or "Copy" functions
after it appears in your account.
Can videos be put in a photo set?
No. Photo sets
can only contain photos and gifs.
How do I add or change a title?
You can add a
title when initially uploading your images or video by simply typing it in the
"Title" box on the upload form. Media in your account that has been
uploaded without a title or had the title deleted will display "Click to
Add Title" in gray. Click that text, enter your title, and click
"ok." Your title will be displayed in black. To change an
existing title, just click on the title and type in your new title.
What does the "Private" link do?
Making your media
private prevents the general public from viewing your media. Your items will not
appear in any search on Use.com, such as "Most Recent." The "Show
links & HTML codes" and "Add this image to my account" links
will not appear on your image's display.
Anonymous
uploads are always private and can only be accessed through the URL provided.
When you upload while logged in as a registered user, you have the option of
designating your items as "Private" when you upload them, but they are
"Public" by default.
To change the
privacy setting for any item in your account, use the "Private" link above the item. Your media will then only be viewable when using the HTML link provided in your account. The "Private" link will be red for all currently private items. Clicking the "Private" link again will make your media viewable by the public.
What does the "Hide Links" link do?
HTML & Image
Code links are provided by default for all public items hosted on Use.com. The "Hide Links" option allows access to your media only through your media's individual ID number. Visitors to Use.com will not be able to view your media by searching by
keyword. This action can be undone on your account management page by clicking the red "Show Links" link for the item.
What does the "History" link do?
The
"History" link will give you a report of the total number of views for
your media, a list of the URL's that viewers came from, and the last time the
item was viewed.
Are there any statistics available for how often my image or video was viewed?
The
"History" link will give you a report of the total number of views for
your media, a list of the URL's that viewers came from, and the last time the
item was viewed.
Why don't I see recently uploaded items in my account?
Your items go
into a processing queue when they are uploaded. You may need to wait a few
moments and then refresh the page to see changes in your "My Account"
page. If our servers are extremely busy or if your files are very large, it may
take longer for them to appear in your account.

and the font, make the gallery wider, and edit the promotional text that
appears.
To see your changes, click "Update Gallery." When you are satisfied,
click the "Generate HTML Code" button.
Clicking in the generated code
text box will automatically copy the code. On eBay, you will paste this code into the "Describe the Item You're Selling"
box (using the HTML tab) when creating your eBay listing. You can also include
the gallery in any other web page that supports Flash files.

Troubleshooting
Why don't I see recently uploaded items in my account?
Your items go into a processing queue when they are uploaded. You may need to wait a few moments and then refresh the page
(F5) to see changes in your "My Account" page. If our servers are extremely busy or if your files are very large, it may take longer for them to appear in your account.
Videos won't play. What's wrong?
If you uploaded a video and it won't play, it may be in a format that is not currently supported. For details on this, please see the FAQ entitled What format should my video be in before I upload it to you?
If none of the videos play at all, make sure that your Flash version 8 or later is installed on your computer. To download the most recent version of the Flash player, visit Adobe.
If this doesn't solve the problem, you may need to restart your computer.
The video keeps stopping while I'm watching it. How do I fix that?
If a video doesn't play continuously it is probably due to a low connection speed. For the best viewing experience, you need a broadband connection with at least 500+Kbps.
I can't hear the audio when I'm watching a video, Why?
First, check the volume controls on your computer and speakers. Try viewing other videos to test the audio. It is possible that the video you wish to view was either created without an audio track or that there was a user's error in saving the file for upload.
If the uploaded video utilized SurroundSound, the audio track may not play.
My video is taking a long time to upload. Is something wrong?
Generally, if you have a high-speed internet connection you can expect the upload to take between 1 and 5 minutes for each 5MB of your video file size. However, upload times are determined by many factors, including your connection speed, the size of the video, and the demand on the servers at the time of your upload and can vary widely. If your video is very large, it may take up to several hours to upload. |
